PRIVATE BY DESIGN

Your privacy.

Redact Shot is designed so your private content stays on your device.

Information we collect

The app collects no personal information or usage data. No account, no analytics, no tracking.

Network

The app itself makes no network connections, and the Mac app holds no network entitlement. All redaction happens on your device; your images are not uploaded. Optional tips (in-app purchases) are processed by Apple’s App Store; the developer never receives your images or personal data.

Your images

Images are handled only in memory for masking. Files are written only where you choose. Black box replaces covered pixels, so the original content cannot be recovered from those blacked-out areas of the exported image.

Find Candidates (v1.3 or later)

Find Candidates uses the on-device text recognition (Apple Vision) of macOS and iOS to point out places you may want to hide. Recognized text and any search terms you enter are never saved or sent.

Notifications

The app sends no notifications.

Website analytics

This website uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to measure page views and clicks on App Store links. Website usage data is sent to Google, and GA4 uses cookies. This measures the website, not activity inside the app. See the website privacy policy for data handling, URL filtering, and opt-out information.

PDF files (v1.4)

PDF files and their page images are processed on your device and are not sent off the device by the app. Saving creates a new PDF with every page as an image. Everything visible on the page, including annotations and filled-in form fields, stays in the image, so mask anything you want hidden. The original text data, annotation and form data, bookmarks, attachments, and metadata are not carried over. You choose where to save it.

iPhone app (v1.4)

The iPhone app also processes images and PDF files on your iPhone and does not send them off the device. It collects no personal or usage data. Photos are chosen with the iOS picker, so the app does not ask to read your whole photo library. Only the first time you use Save to Photos, it asks for permission to add to Photos (add only). When you choose Share, the redacted image or PDF file goes to the app you pick, and what that app does with it is governed by that app. What happens after you save or copy (such as iCloud Photos, iCloud Drive, or Universal Clipboard sync) follows your iOS settings.
