Everything you need to get going with ClipRecall. Still stuck? Email us.

Quick start

Copy anything as usual. Press Option + V to open the panel where you are working. Use the arrow keys to pick an item, press Enter to insert it, or Esc to close.

The panel

Three tabs share one panel: Clipboard, Kaomoji and Symbols. Press ★ to pin an item so it stays around — pinned items are kept even after you quit.

Pasting

By default, selecting an item puts it back on your clipboard and the panel closes without stealing focus, so you paste it yourself with ⌘V. Turn on the optional Direct Paste in System Settings, then restart ClipRecall, and the app pastes the selected item for you.

Make it yours

Open Settings (⚙) to switch terminal-style presets (Homebrew, Midnight, Man Page and more) and dial in opacity and blur — readable on any wallpaper.

Privacy & data

Regular history is memory-only and clears when you quit; pinned items are encrypted locally; what you copy never leaves your Mac. “Delete All Data” wipes everything in one step.

FAQ

Does it sync across devices?
No. Everything stays on this Mac — there is no cloud sync or account.
Do I need to grant any permission?
ClipRecall requests no permission at launch — selecting an item puts it back on your clipboard for a manual ⌘V paste. The optional Direct Paste feature can paste for you once you enable it in System Settings and restart ClipRecall. On macOS 26, the system itself may ask you to confirm clipboard access; see the next question.
macOS 26 shows a confirmation dialog, or new copies stop appearing?
macOS 26 manages clipboard reading per app in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Paste from Other Apps. Set ClipRecall to Allow there so it can capture new copies. Even if it stays on Deny, restoring pinned items and pasting with ⌘V keep working.
How is ClipRecall different from the clipboard history built into macOS 26 (Spotlight)?
ClipRecall is built around a dedicated Option + V panel and works on macOS 14.0 or later. Regular history stays in memory and disappears when the app quits, while pinned items persist locally with AES-GCM encryption. You can also restyle the panel like your terminal. The built-in macOS 26 history remains a good choice if those differences do not matter to you.
Is there a Dock icon?
No — it is a menu-bar app that stays out of your way.
What do I need to run it?
macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later, on Apple silicon or Intel.
Billing or refunds for a tip?
